“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
Psalms 27:13 NIV
What are you believing to see God do in your life? Is your faith growing stronger in your waiting? The goodness of God is all around us, can you see it? This is why we need to walk by faith and not by sight. Hebrews 11:6. If we only see from a natural perspective, we’ll miss seeing the goodness of the Lord.
In this particular Psalm, the writer David, was experiencing a plethora of different situations in his life. There are moments of thanksgiving, worship, beseeching, complaining and expectancy. But one thing was without question, he was confident in His God. He was unwavering in his faith and trust, that God was able to deliver through it all. He knew that his answer was in the One who would make him see total victory. Listen to how David begins the Psalm.
“The Lord is my revelation-light to guide me along the way; He’s the source of my salvation to defend me every day. I fear no one! I’ll never turn back and run from You, Lord; surround and protect me. When evil ones come to destroy me, they will be the ones who turn back. My heart will not be afraid even if an army rises to attack. I know that You are there for me, so I will not be shaken.”
Psalms 27:1-3
Confident, resolute and assured was he in His God. Have you found this steadfast confidence in your walk with Jesus? Then believe to see. He is the same God of David and us. What they experienced we can too. I live with the expectancy that every miracle I’ve read about, every deliverance, every supernatural work of God will be seen in my lifetime. I have chosen to believe God’s Word. If He’s the same yesterday, today and forever, then why shouldn’t I experience or see things happen?
I’d rather be whole than sick, prosperous than lacking, be a lender not a borrower, be delivered not defeated, be victorious not a victim, be an ambassador not an embarrassment to the Kingdom of God. I believe to see and live the promises of God. David was confident even in his struggles, that God was and is eternally faithful. One simple victory in prayer will build your faith and confidence for the next trial. This was evident in David’s words.
“Here’s the one thing I crave from God, the one thing I seek above all else: I want the privilege of living with Him every moment in His house, finding the sweet loveliness of His face, filled with awe, delighting in His glory and grace. I want to live my life so close to Him that He takes pleasure in my every prayer.”
Psalms 27:4 TPT
He shows us how to believe and see in these next verses. Priority. Is God our priority? Is intimacy with Him our desire? More than needing God’s intervention, he thirsted for more of Him. Hearts that are tender towards God move Him to act on our behalf. When our children show us love and respect, our hearts are moved towards them. There isn’t anything we wouldn’t do for them in that moment. Consider how much more our Heavenly Father loves us. Whenever we make a move towards Him, we find that He’s already where we needed Him to be the most. David discovered this. He continues;
“In His shelter in the day of trouble, that’s where you’ll find me, for He hides me there in His holiness. He has smuggled me into His secret place, where I’m kept safe and secure— out of reach from all my enemies. Triumphant now, I’ll bring Him my offerings of praise, singing and shouting with ecstatic joy! Yes, listen and you can hear the fanfare of my shouts of praise to the Lord!”
Psalms 27:5-6 TPT
David shared his exuberance, “if you listen you can hear my shouts of praise to the Lord.” Those who believe to see, have a high expectancy level. We’re never shocked at what He does, we stand in awe. We know that He’s faithful in all His ways. We’re on the inside looking out. Even when we’re overwhelmed by our circumstances, we’re led to the Rock that is higher than the mountains or enemies before us. Why? We believe to see. In this Psalm we’re also introduced to different vulnerabilities in David’s life. And the responses he had.
“God, hear my cry. Show me Your grace. Show me mercy, and send the help I need! Lord, when You said to me, “Seek My face,” my inner being responded, “I’m seeking Your face with all my heart.” So don’t hide Yourself, Lord, when I come to find You. You’re the God of my salvation; how can you reject Your servant in anger? You’ve been my only hope, so don’t forsake me now when I need You! My father and mother abandoned me. I’m like an orphan! But You took me in and made me Yours.”
Psalms 27:7-10 TPT
We’ve all at some point felt as if God was far away. We’ve all at some point used some of David’s despairing words. But we’ve all been rescued by our Father’s loving care. Rejected, and abandoned sometimes by our own parents, but never by our loving Father as David has so eloquently spoken. Our opening verse is spoken confidently by someone who has seen every side of God. David had an intimacy with God that led Him to say he, David, was “a man after My own heart.” I want to be known that way by my Heavenly Father, don’t you? When we believe to see His goodness, we will never be disappointed. This is how David concluded his Psalm.
“Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for He will never disappoint you!”
Psalms 27:14 TPT
Our faith truly becomes sight when we walk in unwavering trust in our faithful God. WT
Father in the Name of Jesus,
We resolve to find Your heart and trust like David did. He sought You for everything. He discovered that in You he had a life filled with hope and help. You were never far away from us. You draw near even when our own family abandons is. In waiting for You he believed to see Your goodness and did see it. We also determine to believe and see Your goodness. In Jesus Name.
