“When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it. Now the house of David was told, “Aram has allied itself with Ephraim”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind. Then the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub, to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field. Say to him, ‘Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood—because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah. Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying, “Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.” Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “ ‘It will not take place, it will not happen, for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is only Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people. The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’ ” Selah
Isaiah 7:1-9 NIV
Be careful that you do not trust, fear, worship, heed anything or anyone more than Jehovah God. Your foundation should be built on nothing else but Christ. His Word should always be our priority. The only go-to in time of trouble. In the past the prophets delivered God’s Word to His people, today you don’t necessarily need a “prophet “ you have One resident in you, the Holy Spirit. He takes the Word of God and makes it come alive in every circumstance or situation.
When Isaiah the prophet brought the Word of God to the king of Judah, he was shaken by the news of an impending threat. The plot of enemy armies had him shaking like the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind. Would you agree that this threat must’ve been pretty bad? But our God who sees everything, sent a Word of encouragement to Ahaz. “Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid.” Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood.” Lol God has a name for whatever your fear is, He has a name for whoever your enemy is. He calls them defeated! As far as He’s concerned, they’re already wood for the fire.
He gives a warning to Ahaz and He’s giving it to us in this season of fear. Be careful, keep calm. No matter what’s happening around you, you have a Word not from a prophet, but from Jehovah God Himself. Whenever I read words like that I’m emboldened! I’m encouraged. Why? Because He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. His Word never changes or fails. Our problem is we’re forgetful. We only believe when there’s no problem. We panic about the simplest things. When the Word is available to sustain and withstand every and anything.
Do you have any idea whose and who you are? If God cared enough to give us His Word as our sustainability center, the least we can do is get to know what it says. Has your faith been wavering in this season? Have you lost your spiritual footing? Why? What have you been doing in the season of plenty? Haven’t you been storing up His Word in your heart? Is CNN and FOX news your go to or is it the Word? Do you buy into the fear mongering that’s taking place twenty four seven? Or have you heeded the Word to be careful and keep calm? Careful of what? Not allowing the report no matter how real, to rattle you. That’s the warning Isaiah gave the king. The threat was real, but the Word of God was the reality.
The verse that stood out the most is the one I underlined. I’m praying it stands out in your spirit as well. That is the warning for all of us who claim to believe in Jesus Christ. That’s is the true test of our faith in God and His Word. There’s nothing left to say after those words. Either you’re standing or you’re not. The choice is yours. Victory is assured -God cannot lie. But it’s up to us whether we sink or swim.
The caveat to the promise rest on these words. “If you do not stand firm in your faith you will not stand at all.” Selah
The prophet has spoken. God has given you His Word. What will you do with it? If you’re wavering between the news of the day and the Good News, your faith is in jeopardy. You know what the Bible says about being double minded? It makes you unstable in all of your ways. Simply put, any area of your life that lacks faith as its foundation, makes the entire structure unstable. Turn around, change course. Get your faith footing back. The promises only work where faith is present. God challenged the king to ask Him for a sign, it didn’t matter the size and scope. God was looking for faith. He didn’t find it. Instead Ahaz showed false humility. If God told you to ask, then ask away. We can’t shock Him. We can’t give Him a test by asking too big. Whatever Ahaz was willing to ask for God stood ready to deliver. But he didn’t so God gave His own sign.
It’s amazing how we will trust the word of man over the Word of God. If God told you to take the masks off would you? The same people who told us masks didn’t work, now tells us not to take them off. Yet you believe them. If He told you that He was your cure for Covid would you believe Him? If He told you not to fear, do you believe Him, if He told you, you wouldn’t lack for anything, would you believe Him? Guess what? He has. In the very scripture we just read. Ahaz made a decision according to him, to “not test God” I’m sure he wasn’t too happy about what God had to say. Continue reading from verse 10. In the ensuing verses we get a glimpse into God’s redemptive plan. But Ahaz had to deal with his indecision.
Whenever God invites you to ask. Know that beyond the shadow of a doubt, He’s about to do something amazing in your life. Don’t be Ahaz. Ask for what you desire or take what you get. When your faith is in good standing with God, ask. Never doubt His Word to you. He has a reputation for keeping His promises. He may send a prophet, He may give you a dream or vision, or He may lift His Word off the pages and open your eyes to see something you never saw before. But one thing is certain-Any method He chooses to use will not fail or fall.
Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all! The Word of the Lord to you today.
Let us pray🙏
