7/29/20 - WHEN DREAMS DON’T MATCH UP.....Part Three conclusion

Joseph was at the place of having done all to stand. He had done nothing wrong. But his whole world had fallen apart, or so it seemed. It was now 14 years later and God was about to bring the manifestation to light. Joseph was fully matured and life had trained and prepared him for his promotion. The coronation was more than Joseph would ever be able to process. Talk about “from rags to riches” from the pit to the palace. When we wait on God’s timing He will blow our minds.

His plans are always worth waiting for. When we allow Him to fulfill His Word, there will be no cutting corners, He pulls out all the stops. Joseph must’ve thought, “pinch me, tell me I’m dreaming.” That’s our God! David went from a shepherd boy to the throne, Moses went from tending Jethro’s sheep to the greatest showdown in the history of mankind. Go read Exodus and Hebrews 11. I can’t write out all of Joseph’s story but it’s the most beautiful display of grace mercy and forgiveness I’ve ever read. What the enemy means for evil God is working it out for our good. But the dream that didn’t match up at first found its closure. What didn’t make sense, finally did for all involved. God is a Master of surprises and has a sense of humor to match. Yes my friends! God laughs out loud.

So pharaoh has his dreams, the cupbearer remembers, Joseph is summoned, Joseph gives God the glory and the dream is interpreted, Joseph is promoted to second in command, the famine hits hard, Egypt is the only land with a surplus and guess who comes calling 26 years later? Unless you repent, you will come face to face with your sin. The brothers have moved on, everyone is older now including Joseph. He’s living large and in charge. Got a name change, a wife and two boys with names that speaks to all he’s been through and God’s faithfulness. “Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.””

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭41:51-52‬ ‭NIV‬‬

But now, the unexpected reunion is about to go down. Joseph looks like, talks like and walks like an Egyptian lol. But for real, he knows them but... .the dream....

“Then ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked. “From the land of Canaan,” they replied, “to buy food.” Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭42:3, 6-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Joseph is about to have some fun! And he did for a while. Then the man who had suffered much, loved much. Remember he named his son “God has made me forget my father’s household?” Well his household was front and center on their faces. The dream that had taken away his youth, separated him from his blood brother Benjamin and his beloved father Jacob, had manifested after years of thinking, “there’s no way, this dream will ever come to pass.” Don’t ever give up on God! Hold on to every promise. He cannot lie. If it’s taking longer than you thought it would, maybe, like Joseph, we need two more years of waiting. Maybe we’re not ready for prime time. Only God knows. He doesn’t do anything halfway. Everything has to line up perfectly. Then we’ll give Him glory and not boast in ourselves. I would encourage you to read the entire account from Genesis 37-50 or purchase Chuck Swindoll’s book Joseph. You’ll be blessed. Let’s conclude this remarkable story.

“Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” (Doesn’t that sound like Jesus?) When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance(Genesis 15). “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭45:1-8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What happened? Maturity and growth, that’s what! He saw the purpose for not only the dream, but for the years he suffered as a slave. He, without knowing the full extent of his suffering, had preserved an entire nation, known to us as the Jews/Israelites. What humility and grace. A demonstration of Jesus. Such love and forgiveness. Mercy beyond words. Joseph was Jesus with skin on. How many of us would have responded in kind? The opportunity for revenge was his to have. He chose mercy instead. That’s what Jesus did for us. When the verdict was read, and we were sentenced to death, Jesus stepped up and offered to pay the penalty in full. O what a compassionate Friend! We are blessed beyond words. How could Joseph forgive so easily? He had learned the secret of trusting God. He had God’s perspective. He saw what he went through as an opportunity to save lives. Again, a portrait of Jesus. Jesus put aside His heavenly glory to adapt to the role of a mere human. Hebrews 5:8

“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭

The dream didn’t match the suffering, but in the end he saw its fulfillment and understood why. The testing is the training. If we fail to pass we’ll repeat it. So why not let the process run it’s course? Father knows best. And guess what folks? This was even bigger than Joseph. This was about God fulfilling a promise He made to Abraham. The entire account can be found in Genesis chapter 15. We are not just serving a god, we’re serving Jehovah God! Creator of all life! Faithful to a thousand generations. Hallelujah! Praise the true and living God! Take a praise break! Hallelujah!!

Holy Father, wonderful Jesus,

You said if we don’t faint we’ll reap. Help us to submit to your will for us. You watch over every Word you speak to perform it. We never have to worry or be anxious about anything, not when You’re in control. We may not face what Joseph did, but whatever method of preparation you choose for us, help us to be like Joseph and walk in integrity, honoring You while we wait. In Jesus Name. Amen

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:5-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When God puts a dream in our hearts we undergo testing. God uses those tests to prove our character, the greater the dream, the greater the test. C. Hendrix
